We like to get together

We like to think we’re a bit different here at RHouse.

Reading is full of house sharing opportunities – with its good rail links, shops and social scene it’s a great place lots of working professionals relocate to, and this hasn’t gone unnoticed by landlords. So we know we’re fighting for your attention when it comes to shared living, as a lot of other companies offer what we do – a comfortable, affordable place to live.

But what makes us stand out from the rest?

Our social events.

You may have seen us talk about them online, even featuring on our social media from time to time (Christmas meal anyone?). We know that moving to a new area is a daunting prospect, and in adulthood making new friends is sometimes more challenging than it’s made out to be. Moving into a house share is one way to make new friends, but if you’re totally new to the area chances are you’re looking for more than just four or five new friends!

At our events – which in the past have ranged from escape rooms to quiz nights, treasure hunts to nights out – we encourage all our houses to mingle with one another. Our Christmas dinner last year we mixed up the seating plan so everyone was sitting next to someone from a different house! And the escape rooms had no more than three housemates from the same house in each team. This did prove to be a real test of how quickly can you bond given we were all on a time limit to get out!

They’re also a great way to get to know the area. Not only will we try to mix it up and do something different at each event, but we’ll choose different locations each time too. The pub quiz in November 2021 was held at a pub in Caversham, whereas the Christmas dinner the month after was in Central Reading. A great opportunity to scout out potential locations to bring your own friends and families when they come to visit!

We also love that our events are a chance for us to get to know you better, and vice versa. We can chat about the houses and how you’re finding shared living if that’s what you want, or discuss hobbies, Eastenders, and the next big holiday you’re going on! We love to get to know our housemates as much as possible – not only does it mean a more personalised service for you in the long run, but it means we have a better idea of which potential housemates to match to your house in the future.

Looking ahead to 2022 (hopefully the first full year of events since those first lockdowns in 2020!) and we’ve already got some thoughts and dates for what to do this year! A sports day? Group trip to the football? A mini RHouse festival? A night out? Murder mystery evening? More quiz nights? The possibilities are endless, and if you have any ideas too we’d really love to hear them.
